Guatemala - La Espina
Discover the exceptional character of Guatemala La Espina, a specialty-grade single-origin coffee grown in the mountains of Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala's most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Freshly roasted in small batches, this medium roast offers a smooth, balanced cup with tasting notes of dried fruit, candied almonds, and rich caramel.
This coffee comes from Finca La Ceiba, where producer Yosis Hugo Calderón Martínez continues a family tradition of growing exceptional coffee. Having learned coffee farming from his grandfather, Don Hugo combines generations of knowledge with a commitment to quality, producing coffees that showcase the unique terroir of western Guatemala.
The coffee is grown at 1,560 meters above sea level in the Rio Ocho area of San Pedro Necta and features a blend of Bourbon, Anacafé 14, and Marsellesa varieties. Carefully washed and dried, the result is a remarkably clean cup with sweetness, complexity, and a satisfying medium body.
The name La Espina—Spanish for The Thorn—is inspired by the young ceiba tree, Guatemala's national tree. Its protective spines help preserve both the tree and the surrounding rainforest ecosystem, making it a fitting symbol for a coffee rooted in resilience, stewardship, and tradition.
