Papua New Guinea - Jiwaka

Papua New Guinea - Jiwaka

Regular price $ 15.00

This exceptional coffee is grown in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea is north of Australia, is located in the eastern half of the Island of New Guinea which falls within the Pacific "Ring of Fire." PNG is one of the most environmentally and culturally diverse places in the world. Over 800 known languages are spoken amongst the more than 7 million people living on the land. Jiwaka Province is the second-highest coffee producing area in the country and borders Mount Wilhelm, the country’s tallest mountain.

Most of the ripe coffee cherry is collected at farm gates and brought to the mill, but some are delivered to the wet mill by farmers. The coffee cherry is then pulped, washed, soaked and sun-dried to 11 percent moisture content. The coffee is then stored as parchment for transport to a central processing mill in Goroka, approximately 200 miles away in the Eastern Highlands Province, where it’s then hulled for shipment. To preserve quality, the coffee stays in the Highlands where it’s far less humid and is transported another 200 miles by road to the port city of Lae, only just in time to ship.

Our COFFEE
Can I have my coffee ground?

Sure! Simply select the ground size when ordering.

How should I store my coffee?

In an air-tight container – please do not freeze.

How long will coffee stay fresh?

Coffee is best from a few days after the roast up to a month. Coffee can be consumed for several months but the quality of coffee will be diminished. We encourage people to only buy enough coffee to be consumed within 2-4 weeks.

What is single origin coffee?

Single origin coffee is simply a coffee grown within a known geographic origin. We try to source coffee which can be identified down to the farmer and/or processing mill.

How do you source your coffee?

We work together with a number of coffee producers, exporters, and importer partners to source the highest quality coffees at an affordable price.

Are your coffees certified USDA organic?

No. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of USDA organic certification, we have decided not to certify our facility at this point in time. Most of our coffees are source from farmers using organic growing methods.

Is your decaf made with chemicals?

NO. We will only source beans that have been decaffeinated through water immersion technique. “Swiss Water Processed” and “Water Mountain Processed” are the two leading industry standards.

Is there caffeine in decaffeinated coffee?

Yes, but only a small amount; decaf coffees range from between 97% and 99% caffeine free.

Roasting and Shipping Times
When will my coffee be roasted and shipped?

Order placed up to midnight on Tuesday will be roasted on Wednesday and ship no later than Friday. Depending on where you live, you will receive your coffee between 2-5 business days from the roast date. We charge a flat rate of $4.95 for all domestic shipped orders, shipped USPS Mail. Other options may be available at time of checkout.

Do you ship internationally?

Sorry, not at this time.
