Colombia - Popayán, Cauca
The city of Popayán is located in the valley of Pubenza, and is one of the central coffee-producing micro region within Cauca. High annual precipitation (2200–2300mm/year) combined with volcanic soil makes it prime land for quality coffee. The terroir or soil, sun weather, and placement on the planet contribute largely to the flavor of these coffees, when they are picked ripe and handled properly.
This coffee is sourced from family owned farms organized around the Asociación de Caficultores Ecológicos del Cauca (ACEC), which has 500 members (80 women) who live in the municipalities of Popayán within the department of Cauca, Colombia. On average, each producer cultivates their coffee on 1.5 hectares of land. ACEC is currently implementing training sessions for members to improve the quality of coffee and manage the environmental impact caused by coffee cultivation in the region.
